Jackson has given his hitters an approach to hitting that has made them one of the best hitting teams in major league history, leading major league baseball in 10 offensive categories (2003-2004), and setting all-time major league records in extra base-hits (649), total bases (2,832), and slugging percentage (.491). Along with talent and hard work, all great hitters have an approach to hitting and can identify what makes them succeed and what does not lead to successful hitting. Jackson teaches how to best observe pitchers to help identify their tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses by focusing on different aspects of their delivery and mental preparation. He also stresses the importance of knowing yourself as a hitter and using personal strengths to gain an advantage at the plate. Jackson then gives a specific approach and recommended contact points for the fastball, curveball, slider, change-up, split-finger, and knuckle ball.
